Red Houses

These red houses are situated on Mount Ruju amidst a thick forest of cork oaks and owe their name to the original colour of the walls. This was a rural settlement of which, unfortunately, now remain only the walls, hidden by oaks. The red houses were probably used as a shelter for the inhabitants of the town during the bombing of World War II. The area around the houses now offer an excellent sheltered grassy area for a quick, recreational stop.
